I wanted her to have the full, long life that every parent promises his or her child by the simple act of bringing that child into the world.

About This Quote

A quote from the movie, "Up," in which Carl Fredricksen says this to Ellie after she has given birth to their daughter. Although this is a cute and sweet sentiment, the reality is that every person who comes into this world does not get the full, long life that every parent promises their child. Disease and death come into the world and take away countless lives each day. Families live through many battles and losses in their lifetime.

Yet, we often put our trust in the promise of longer lives and take comfort in the years we might have together. The reality, however, is that we will never see our children or family grow to adulthood. We will miss them when they leave for college or go off to work far away from us.

We will mourn them when they die young or before they can even walk out of our lives. But we will continue to love them even when they are gone. They were always with us and we will always be grateful for what we had with them.
